Los Pira as is Bogota s most powerful musical triumvirate a power trio made up of guitarist Eblis Alvarez Meridian Brothers drummer Pedro Ojeda Romperayo and bassist Mario Galeano Frente Cumbiero Ondatropica The three musicians have known each other since high school and have done more to transform Colombian music than pretty much anyone from their generation hopscotching from roots music to avant experiments and disseminating their vision around the world. As a project Los Pira as music may be closest to their shadowy psychedelic rock past but as such among all of the trio s tropical experiments it maybe the most indie rock ready. If cumbia champeta and tropicalia are still at the heart of the music the context is very much that of a psychedelic guitar trio. While the band performs in Europe somewhat regularly they have never toured the US and this will be their first US tour
