As far as Los Angeles clubs go, The Troubadour is seen as a little smaller, a little edgier, and at times a little hipper than the Whisky. It's got a much different history, when the Whisky was going after the shooting star-type bands, The Troubadour was booking Tom Waits, Billy Joel, James Taylor, and Neil Diamond; albeit at the rising-to-fame point in their career, but those guys are still quite different animals than Motley Crue and the Doors. But they quickly rose as a heavy-hitter on the club scene when Metallica, System of a Down, and Pearl Jam played their first headlining shows, Guns N' Roses played the show that got them signed to Geffen, and Korn opened up for Corrosion of Conformity. It's been known as a venue that will take a chance on smaller acts, and has always been able to take a better pulse on what's happening in music today, so in addition to checking out their world-famous sound system and chilling at their rock star bar, you'll be able to say, "Hey! I saw that band before they got famous down at the Troubadour!"
