Santa Monica's premiere authentic jazz club!
After drinks, saunter down to Harvelle's, Santa Monica's premiere authentic jazz club. Smoky, dim, bare, and unpretentious, it's everything you'd expect from LA's original blues club. There's live music, great musicians, and if you're lucky you can catch a soulful, inspired and electrifying jam session or two. Every Sunday, don't miss The Toledo Show for pure unadulterated soul, jazz and burlesque performances. With its full bar and fittingly cool bartenders, it's a great place for a nightcap after a night of sampling the Third Street Promenade's bars and restaurants.
Harvelle's is a fine jazz establishment located in the heart of Santa Monica on 4th Street, a short walk away from the 3rd St Promenade. Even though it's within Santa Monica's prime real estate, Harvelle's makes no pretense of what it is - a smoky, bare-bones jazz club whose focus is squarely on the bands. It's so laid-back in every other aspect, you'll think you have walked straight into the center of Venice Beach. Harvelle's bar is nothing really to speak of, the interior looks like an old blackbox theatre that time forgot, and you may not want to sit in the booths. The music experience, however, is heavenly. Harvelle's consistently brings in the best jazz acts in the SoCal region, and there are always little surprises throughout the night that make your experience at this fine Los Angeles music venue that much more memorable. Random people emerge from the audience to play with the band on stage; the crowd is definitely a dancing crowd, ready for any kind of music the band throws at them; and you're guaranteed to have some pretty insane improvisation on any given night. If you're a jazz aficionado, skip the more upscale places - Harvelle's keeps it real.
