The Good Hurt in Mar Vista is special in its location – Mar Vista is neither Venice nor Culver City, and is a bit of a no-man's-land when it comes to nightlife, bars, and live music. The Good Hurt is the lone soul on the quiet strip of Venice between Lincoln and Sepulveda, and at times, tries to be all things to all music lovers. On any random night, you may walk into Mexican ska, punk, r&b, experimental, and everything in between.

The Good Hurt is definitely a music place - it really doesn't have a draw on the non-music nights, and it's not set up to enjoy anything else other than what's happening on stage. There is a bit of oddness with the plexiglass-encased bar area, which seems like it was meant as a sound barrier, but doesn't really deliver in that category. At the bar, stick with the beer at any cost, preferably the bottled beer. Their selection of house cocktails is interesting at best and reminiscent of cleaning fluid at worst. You have to hand it to them, though; they're exceedingly friendly for local bands that are just looking for a place to play. Their sound system is surprisingly good, and depending on the crowd, checking out bands here can be a great, local way to kill a night.
