Culver City's Craftiest Cocktail Bars:

#2 - Seventy7

Like true love and the perfect cocktail, the best things in life are hard to find. Tucked way down a dimly lit alley and shrouded in secrecy, Culver City's speakeasy lounge, Seventy7, is no exception. Off the beaten path of the other hip bars in the downtown Culver area, Seventy7 stands out by not standing out at all. Those that don't know any better would most likely walk right on past Seventy7 without a second glance. But, to those in the know, a sharp turn down an alleyway behind Public School 310 leads to an epic bar experience. A single mysterious yellow and red neon "Cocktails" sign is the only indicator that you're in the right place. Taking one more turn through this winding alley after the sign and you'll stumble upon a wooden door with a latched keyhole. This peculiar portal is the gateway to Culver City's speakeasy. Illuminated with soft amber lighting, you and whichever lucky date or friend you've brought along will enter into a subtly swanky 1920's-esque venue with gold wallpaper and posh black leather ottomans. Miniature chandeliers add to the vintage vibe, along with their retro art pieces. But, what really puts this prohibition era venue over the top is what's behind the bartender's counter. Housing the emerald liquid, absinthe, which was banned in the states until 2007, Seventy7 truly channels the spirit of the decade it was inspired by. Known to some as "the green fairy," this enigmatic concoction draws in adventurous crowds nightly that want to experience this forbidden potion for themselves. If you're looking for a little journey into the unknown, Seventy7 is the place to escape to this weekend.
